Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has dismissed claims that the Ghana Law Society is made up of lawyers affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking to the media after the society’s rescheduled press conference on Monday, January 26, 2026, Mr Dafeamekpor said the group rather consists of Ghanaian lawyers who believe the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has departed from its original mandate.

“We are not a group of NDC lawyers. We are Ghanaian lawyers who have come to the bitter realisation that the Ghana Bar Association has lost its lustre and glamour and, more importantly, its purpose,” he stated.

He also raised concerns about accountability within the GBA, questioning how members’ annual dues are managed.

“Members pay GH¢1,200 every year, yet there is no clarity on how the funds are utilised,” Mr Dafeamekpor said.

According to him, the association has also failed to provide collective support to members when professional challenges arise.

“Members have several concerns and crises, but there is no collective intervention from the association,” he added.
