Sammy Gyamfi hauls Afia Schwarzenegger to court in GH₵10 million defamation suit

The Chief Executive Officer of Goldbod and National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has filed a defamation suit against social commentator Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger, demanding GH₵10 million in damages.
The suit, filed at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, July 23, comes in response to what Mr. Gyamfi describes as a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing his hard-earned reputation.
According to the court documents, Afia Schwarzenegger allegedly claimed that Mr. Gyamfi has multiple girlfriends at the University of Ghana, and has purchased cars and properties for them.
She also reportedly accused him of acquiring real estate abroad for his wife and a supposed sister-in-law named "Vida."
Mr. Gyamfi has categorically denied all the allegations, describing them as false, malicious, and deliberately fabricated to damage his image and credibility.
“These claims are completely baseless and intended to portray me as morally bankrupt and lacking integrity,” he stated in his suit.
He further clarified that his wife does not have a sister named Vida, and that he has never purchased any property in the United States or elsewhere for either his wife or any alleged in-law.
The NDC spokesperson revealed that the accusations have caused significant reputational damage, leading to a flood of calls and concerns from colleagues, senior government officials, party executives, family members, and international associates.
Mr. Gyamfi is seeking GH₵10 million in general damages, a retraction of the defamatory statements, and an unqualified apology from Ms. Schwarzenegger.
He also requests a perpetual injunction restraining her from making further defamatory comments against him.
