State funeral announced for former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings
The Government of Ghana, under the auspices of President John Dramani Mahama, will hold a state funeral for the late former First Lady Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
The funeral will take place on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Independence (Black Star) Square, Accra.
"The state funeral is in recognition of Mrs Rawlings' invaluable contributions to the advancement of the rights of women and children in Ghana, and national development," the presidency said.
Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings passed on October 23, at Ridge Hospital, Accra. She was 76.
The founder of the 31st December Women's Movement, she became the first woman to run for president of Ghana, leading the National Democratic Party (NDP), in 2016.
She is survived by four children. Her husband, former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, passed in 2020, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra. He was 73.
