Stop arrogating La lands without lawful authority to avoid litigation-Family to developers
The Concerned La Youth is urging property developers to seek approval from the rightful alodial family quarters concerning lands at La Tusi Anaa - Black Watch/Agri Cattle, covering approximately 50,000 acres in between the Adentan and Kponetamanso municipalities of the Greater Accra Region.
Speaking on the Ghana Yensom Morning Show hosted by Odehyeeba Kofi Essuman on Accra 100.5 FM on Friday, July 19, 2024, Rev. George Kwesi Agbeyengah, the Chief Executive Officer of CMI and attorney for the La Family, explained that Black Watch/Agri Cattle originally leased land from the Nungua community for farming.
‘’This transaction is documented on the La Stool Land in the Gold Coast Map.
When the issue arose, Nungua initially acknowledged that the land around the lake, referred to as 'Lakeside,' belonged to the people of La’ he revealed.
Rev. Agbeyengah emphasized the importance of developers approaching the La family for the necessary documentation to avoid prolonged litigation, as the family has filed injunctions against all claimants on the said land.
He mentioned that Black Watch/Agri Cattle had paid ground fees to the La stool, as evidenced in an appeal court transcript.
Against this backdrop, the people of La, particularly the youth from the allodial family quarters, have been fighting to protect the lands from being taken over by developers such as Regimanuel, Sucasa, and Golden Coast Development.
On July 2, 2024, the youth, led by Nii Konney Odumanye, went to the site to stop assignees of Regimanuel from constructing a fence wall around the land allegedly claiming to protect the said land.
Rev. Agbeyengah noted that the assignees, led by Regimanuel's head of security, Ibrahim, agreed to let peace prevail, and the matter was reported to the Lakeside Police Command.
