“Surprised the judge said I’d reoffend If granted bail” – Abronye reacts to bail conditions
Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, says he was taken aback by remarks from an Accra Circuit Court judge suggesting he would commit further offences if admitted to bail.
Speaking in an interview with 1957 News after his bail application was granted by the High Court, Abronye said he did not understand the basis for the judge’s conclusion at the Circuit Court.
“I was surprised the judge concluded that I am admitted to bail, I will commit further offences.
I didn’t know the evidence before him at the moment,” he said. “If there is evidence, at least the judge could have given me an opportunity to respond, but the judge didn’t do that and remanded me to police custody.”
Abronye explained that his business at the High Court today was to file a bail application, which has now been granted.
He added that while the Circuit Court judge was aware of his condition, he believes “there is something wrong somewhere.”
The NPP regional chairman stopped short of calling his earlier remand by the BNI a “political ruling in the judicial system,” but said his lawyers are working to “see things put in place.”
