The Member of the Council of State for the Volta Region, Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah Atokple, has called for strengthened dialogue, unity of purpose and collective responsibility among political leaders as key drivers for accelerated development in the Volta Region.

He made the call at a retreat organised by Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Volta Region in Ho, where leaders gathered to reflect on governance, leadership and the development priorities of the region.

Mr Atokple described the opportunity to interact with the legislators as both humbling and significant, noting the enormous responsibility MPs bear in representing their constituents and shaping national policy. He said such engagements were crucial in aligning leadership actions with the aspirations of the people.

According to him, discussions at the retreat were frank, thoughtful and anchored in a shared concern for the long-term future and development of the Volta Region. He commended the MPs for their openness and the spirit of mutual respect that characterised the dialogue, describing it as a strong foundation for addressing the region’s development challenges.

Mr Atokple said he was particularly encouraged by the level of awareness demonstrated by the MPs regarding their legislative responsibilities and the expectations of their constituents. He observed that effective leadership goes beyond lawmaking to include a deep understanding of the needs, aspirations and concerns of people at the grassroots level.

A key highlight of the engagement, he noted, was the willingness of the MPs to reflect on leadership beyond partisan politics. Discussions, he said, focused on development-oriented leadership, accountability in public office, and the importance of MPs remaining visible, accessible and responsive to the people they serve.

He further stressed that leadership is a continuous learning process shaped by humility and guided by service. Platforms such as the caucus retreat, he added, provide valuable opportunities for leaders to learn from one another and strengthen their collective resolve to serve with integrity and purpose.

Mr Atokple said he left the retreat encouraged and hopeful, expressing confidence that the commitment shown by the MPs would translate into tangible development outcomes for the region.

He called for sustained collaboration among political leaders, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to advance the development aspirations of the Volta Region and contribute meaningfully to the overall progress of the Republic of Ghana.
