Residents in the Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom Constituency of the Greater Accra Region are reeling over the state of mismanaged traffic situation among others like bad roads in the area.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, the failed parliamentary candidate on the ticket of main opposition National Democratic Congress for the Botianor- Ngleshie- Amanfro constituency, Alex Akuaokor said many of the workers in the area can hardly sleep for eight hours as stipulated by health experts because of heavy traffic in the area.

He said many of the residents hardly sleep for eight hours because of the traffic situations they are confronted with on daily basis.

Workers who reside in the area have to on daily basis leave their homes about 4:00am to 5:00am in the wee hours of the morning to beat the gridlock on the Kasoa- Accra highway to make it to their various offices by 8:00am.

This he said has been a daily ritual on the road.

“If you are the lazy type who loves early morning sleep, you will always be late for work because the heavy traffic on that stretch of road will not afford you that luxury,” he said.

“Commuting on that stretch of road has become discomforting in the area because of the long hours spent in traffic. People burn many litres of petrol daily traveling on that stretch to the tollbooth area,” he added. 

Mr. Akuoko highlighted the plights of residents plying the road for work when he appeared as a panelist on the discussion segment on the ‘Ghana Yensom’ morning show hosted by Kwame Appiah Kubi on Accra 100.5 FM on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.

He explained that the worrying situation is seeing children under the age of five in the back seats of their parent's cars and in commercial cars sleeping while their parents attempt to beat the early morning gridlock. 

He said among other things the roads in the area are badly constructed leading to everybody using the main road.

“However, when as citizens we complain about the state of our roads in the area, the Roads and Highways Minister, Kwesi Amoako Atta is telling us to be at speed with his work.

“How does the Minister expect us to be at speed with him when he is busy fixing the roads in the elite areas instead of the rural areas?” he quizzed.
