World Radio Day: Jerry Ahmed Shaib calls for media freedom and stronger legal protections
The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe and Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has called on the government to create an enabling environment where media institutions can operate freely without fear, intimidation, or arbitrary interference.
Making a statement on the floor of the House in commemoration of World Radio Day, Mr Shaib stressed that democracy thrives when journalists are protected and empowered to do their work independently.
He further urged media owners to invest in their newsrooms, ensuring that journalists are equipped with the skills, ethical grounding, and adequate resources required to report with fairness, accuracy, and integrity.
He later called for stronger, forward-looking laws that firmly entrench protections for radio broadcasting.
