Ya Na inducted into Nat'l House of Chiefs
Ya Na Mahama Abukari II was in January this year enskinned after the decades-old Dagbon chieftaincy conflict was resolved.
The induction ceremony took place in Tamale following the House’s decision to temporarily move its headquarters from Kumasi to the Northern regional capital.
In an exclusive interview with Class News’ Mohammed Gaddafi, the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed, said the eminent chiefs in Tamale have resolved to fashion out strategies to prevent conflicts there.
He said: “The National House of Chiefs, for the first time, have relocated their meeting from Kumasi to Northern Region as a way of honouring Dagbon and the Ya Na as a gesture to send a signal to the people of Dagbon, to the people of Northern Region, to the people of Northern Ghana and Ghana at large that the thing that has happened to the people of Dagbon, the whole of Ghana is happy.
“The problem of Dagbon is the problem of Ghana. The happiness and joy of Dagbon and the celebration of the new Ya Na is the celebration of the [whole] Ghana; that is why the National House of Chiefs, led by Togbe Afede, the president of the National House of Chiefs, is here.
“Also, they are trying to look at the issue that will be tabled and the strategies that the Ya Na should adopt together with the good people of Dagbon that will consolidate the peace of Dagbon, that will promote and sustain the peace of Dagbon to attract the needed investment and development into the area.”
