27 suspects arrested in anti-galamsey operation at Ankaase Gyadam

The Ghana Police Service has arrested twenty-seven (27) male suspects in connection with illegal mining activities during a coordinated, intelligence-led operation at Ankaase Gyadam near Asamang Tamfoe in the Eastern Region on Friday, July 25, 2025.
According to the Police, the suspects were caught actively engaged in illegal mining at various sites within the area.
During the operation, some individuals attempted to resist arrest and attacked officers with machetes and other offensive weapons.
A significant cache of equipment and machinery was seized from the sites.
These include eleven (11) excavators, one (1) bulldozer, one (1) pump-action shotgun, three (3) saloon vehicles, one (1) Mitsubishi pickup truck, one (1) pick loader, and several water pumping machines, along with other mining tools.
All 27 suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
The seized items have been secured as evidence to support the ongoing probe into the illegal mining operations.
The police have assured the public of their continued commitment to clamping down on illegal mining activities, which pose serious environmental and security threats to the country.
