8 police officers interdicted after fatal shooting at Sayerano
The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into a shooting incident at Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region, which claimed the lives of two people.
In a statement, the Western North Regional Police Command said calm had been restored in the community following the incident, which occurred on Monday, 7 July 2026.
According to preliminary investigations, a confrontation broke out between some residents of Sayerano and a police patrol team.
During the incident, three people sustained gunshot wounds. Two of the victims died, while three others are receiving treatment at the Asafo Roman Catholic Hospital.
The Police said all eight officers involved in the incident have been interdicted.
The Inspector-General of Police has also directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Western North Regional Police Command expressed appreciation to traditional authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders for their support in helping to restore calm.
It assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
