C/R: Winneba Technical Institute probes viral video of students brandishing weapons
Authorities at the Winneba Technical Institute in the Central Region have launched a full-scale investigation into a disturbing viral video showing a group of students displaying weapons and allegedly engaging in cult-related activity.
The video, which surfaced online earlier this week, captures approximately 10 students on campus wielding knives, scissors, and other offensive implements.
The footage appears to show an initiation ritual followed by comments suggesting acts of revenge, prompting widespread public concern and condemnation.
Responding to the incident, Assistant Administrator of the school, Stephen Yaw Asare, confirmed that investigations are underway and that six students have so far been identified.
Parents of the implicated students have been invited to assist in the ongoing probe.
“We take this matter very seriously,” Mr. Asare said. “Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against all those found culpable after the investigations are concluded.”
School authorities have also issued a public apology, expressing regret over the incident and assuring the public of their commitment to maintaining discipline and safety on campus.
In a statement, the institute urged parents to take a more active role in monitoring their children, especially by checking the items they bring to school.
The investigation continues as the school works closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.
