Wontumi at CID headquarters in Accra
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has arrived at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra.

He was accompanied by his lawyer, Mr. Andy Appiah-Kubi, a former Member of Parliament for Asante-Akim North Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

Details surrounding his appearance at the CID Headquarters remain unclear, but sources indicate it is connected to an ongoing investigation into Akonta Mining's involvement in illegal mining.

Security was visibly tight at the premises as journalists and party supporters gathered to monitor the development.

His appearance at the CID follows a stern warning issued by Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, on Friday, October 3, 2025. Dr. Ayine stated that Chairman Wontumi would face arrest if he failed to appear, as charges against him have been formally signed.

The investigation centres on Akonta Mining Limited, a company associated with the NPP Chairman, which is under scrutiny for alleged illegal mining activities.

The Attorney-General revealed that the case had been previously delayed due to the concealment of crucial dockets by some elements in the immediate past NPP administration.
