Diaspora: Vigil for slain Elainne Nana Ama Andam slated for Oct 4

A vigil has been announced for the late Elainne Nana Ama Andam.
A candlelight vigil, the solemn gathering is slated for Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
The venue is the Whitgift Shopping Centre Bus Stop, Wellesley Road Entrance.
The programme will start at 7PM and end an hour later.
Participants have been asked to be in a touch of white and come along with candles.
“Let’s all come together and pause to reflect,” the flyer also entreated.
Elainne was the daughter of Michael and Dorcas Andam. Michael is a writer and his wife is a NHS specialist nurse.
The 15-year-old was repeatedly stabbed with a foot-long knife by her friend's ex-lover. It is reported she was protecting her friend against her ex, the attacker, who had initially approached them with flowers in hand.
The crime scene was near the Whitgift shopping centre in Croydon, South London. Elainne was on her way to school at Old Palace of John Whitgift School.
A report by the Metropolitan Police states that, “Elainne was on her way to school when she was attacked in Wellesley Road at approximately 8:30hrs on Wednesday, 27 September.
“Officers were at the scene within two minutes of the call being received. They worked with emergency service colleagues to provide first aid. Despite their efforts, the 15-year-old sadly died at the scene.”

Not more than 75 minutes after the tragedy, a boy was arrested on suspicion of murder. The 17-year-old was at New Addington.
A statement by the Andam family reads: "Our hearts are broken, and we are overwhelmed by sorrow and grief. Our faith in the Lord is strengthening us."
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, condoling said he was "absolutely heartbroken" by the death.
Croydon MP Sarah Jones, an Old Palace alumnus, said: "I'm heartbroken that a child in my town has been killed on her way to school and I cannot imagine the grief that her family will be going through at this time."
"We all personally feel devastated by the events that have happened here in Croydon this morning and the tragic loss of such a young life," remarked Mayor of Croydon Jason Perry.
