GETFund receives over GHS2.7 billion to support Free SHS programme
The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has received a total of GHS2,710,227,947.00 for the first four months of 2025—covering January through April—to support the country’s education sector.
This substantial allocation follows the government’s decision, as outlined in the 2025 Budget, to fund the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme entirely through GETFund resources.
According to the Minister of Finance, the disbursement is expected to significantly address operational challenges that have previously plagued the programme, especially in areas such as student feeding and logistics.
“With funding now streamlined under GETFund, Dr Casiel Ato Forson said: We are seeing improved consistency in the implementation of Free SHS”.
“The difficulties that once affected the smooth running of the programme, particularly issues of feeding, have now been resolved.”
He explained that this is a major step in sustaining Ghana’s flagship education initiative, which aims to ensure equitable access to secondary education across the country.
