Family of late Josephine Asante opposes decision to drop murder charges against suspects
The family of the late Mrs. Josephine Tandoh Asante, former Marketing and Public Affairs Manager of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), has strongly expressed its disappointment over the Attorney-General’s decision to drop charges against four suspects linked to her 2019 murder.
Mrs. Asante was brutally stabbed to death at her residence at Emefs Estate in Tema on January 13, 2019.
She was 49 years old and served as the Marketing and Public Relations Manager at the Tema Port at the time of her death.
On Monday, July 21, 2025, the Tema District Court, presided over by Her Worship Benedicta Antwi, discharged the four accused individuals following a request from the prosecution.
The Attorney-General's Office cited insufficient evidence as the reason for discontinuing the case.
The discharged suspects include Richard Kwabena Kwakye (alias Kwabena Boateng), a former GPHA driver; Dominic Owusu, a driver; Christian Agyei, a houseboy; and Frederick Owusu Oppong, also a driver.
In an interview with journalist Rebecca Lartey, the family of the late Josephine Asante voiced their dissatisfaction with the development.
Her brother, Robert Tandoh, said the family was shocked by the decision and does not agree with the Attorney-General’s advice.
He added that they are currently seeking legal counsel to determine their next steps.
“We are not giving up. Justice must be served, and we will do everything within our power to ensure the truth comes out,” Tandoh stated.
