The Ghana Police Service has arrested five individuals in connection with the violent attack on a teacher of Kade Senior High Technical School (SHTS), as investigations into the incident continue.

The suspects were picked up on Monday, January 5, 2026, after they reportedly travelled from Accra to Kade as part of the ongoing probe into the assault, which occurred late last year.

Confirming the arrests, Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Awoonor Yevu Godwin, told Accra-based Citi FM that the suspects are expected to be arraigned before the Kade Circuit Court today, Wednesday, January 7.

He disclosed that the Police Cyber Security Unit is leading the investigations, a move he said underscores the determination of the Ghana Police Service to ensure accountability for attacks on teachers.

The incident occurred on the night of October 5, 2025, between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., when the victim, Michael Quayson, was allegedly assaulted while returning home.

According to family members, he was ambushed near his residence by a group of about eight individuals, made up of both current and former students of Kade SHTS.

The attackers reportedly fled after relatives intervened.

A video of the assault later surfaced online and went viral on social media.

Preliminary information suggests Mr. Quayson may have been targeted due to his strict enforcement of discipline and his involvement in monitoring the recent WASSCE examinations.

Prior to the latest arrests, only one student had been detained and subsequently granted bail, a development that heightened concerns among teachers in the Kwaebibirem Municipality about their safety.

In response, the Quayson family and several teacher unions have renewed calls on the government, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Police Service to strengthen security measures to protect educators.

They insist that the prosecution of the five suspects is a critical step toward justice and a deterrent against the growing incidents of violence targeting teachers across the country.
