Kasoa cop killings: Prime suspect busted

Mr Eric Kojo Duah, the prime suspect in the murder of two police officers at Kasoa in the Central Region on Wednesday, 28 August 2019, has been arrested.

The police said upon a telephone call received from Supt. Abbas of the police headquarters, officers detailed at Atimpoku Bridge were alerted to arrest the occupants of a black Golf car that was heading to the Volta Region.

The policemen arrested Mr Duah, who was on board the Golf car with registration number GW 5972 - 18 with a plaster on the left side of his face.

The suspect is expected to be taken to the police headquarters in Accra for further investigation.

Duah, allegedly, masterminded the gunning down of Sergeant Michael Gyamasi and Lance Corporal Awal Mohammed, who were on duty on the Kasoa-Winneba road.

Three suspects were earlier arrested in connection with the murder.

Lance Corporal Awal Mohammed has been buried in accordance with Islamic traditions.

It brings to five the number of police personnel killed in a month.

On 30 July 2019, Corporal Agatha Nana Nabin with the Northern Regional Police Command was shot dead at a police checkpoint on the Tamale-Kumbungu road in the Sagnarigu District.

The killers took away two rifles belonging to the deceased while her other colleague escaped.

On 19 August 2019, Corporal Bernard Antwi, 37, attached to the Manso Nkwanta Divisional Command in the Ashanti Region, was found dead after working hours at Manso Abodom in the Amansie West District.

On the same day, another policeman, Lance Corporal Alhassan Asare, was also found dead while on duty at Akim-Swedru in the Eastern Region.

The police are investigating the murders.
