Man jailed for spending ex-girlfriend’s GH¢114,000 loan on betting
An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Vincent Apetor to 14 days in prison and fined him GH¢3,000 for fraudulently using his former girlfriend’s GH¢114,000 loan on football betting.
The court also ordered him to refund the outstanding GH¢79,000 after serving his sentence.
The court heard that Apetor’s former girlfriend obtained the loan to support plans for travel to Holland and deposited the money into his Ecobank account after a travel agent advised them to increase their bank balance for a visa application.
Prosecutors said Apetor secretly withdrew the funds and spent most of the money on football betting without her knowledge.
He later admitted using the money for betting and losing it.
Police recovered GH¢35,000 from him, leaving GH¢79,000 outstanding.
