Police interdict K-9 officer over alleged leak of official document
The Ghana Police Service has ordered the immediate interdiction of a General Corporal attached to the K-9 Unit at the National Headquarters over the alleged unauthorised release of an official police document on social media.
According to a police wireless message dated February 2, 2026, and issued from the Staff Department of the Service, General Corporal George Akuamoah Bredu (Service Number 53205) has been interdicted pending further investigations.
The directive, addressed to the Director-General of Police Operations and the Director of Police in charge of the K-9 Unit, states that the interdiction follows allegations that the officer leaked an official document without authorisation.
As part of the interdiction measures, the message instructs that all weapons, uniforms, and other police accoutrements in the possession of the officer be collected and placed in safe custody.
It further directs that the officer’s room or official quarters be searched for any additional police property, which should also be retrieved for safekeeping.
Copies of the wireless message were shared with several departments, including Police Finance, Logistics, Audit and Payroll, SOS/Records, and the Establishment and Orderly Room.
The message, marked “FLASH,” did not provide further details on the nature of the alleged leaked document or the circumstances surrounding its release.
Police authorities have also not indicated how long the interdiction will last or when disciplinary proceedings may begin.
Interdiction is an administrative measure under police regulations and does not, in itself, constitute a determination of guilt. Investigations are expected to determine the facts surrounding the allegations.
