Tamale court showdown: All 13 suspects granted bail

All the 13 individuals who were apprehended in connection with the clash between residents of Tamale and the police have been released on bail.
The release took place during the late hours of Tuesday, 29 August 2023, following a crucial meeting involving local traditional authorities, the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and the police leadership.
Responding to the incident, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) dispatched a team of officers from the police headquarters to Tamale on Tuesday.
This move aimed to address the situation that had unfolded.
As a result of the disturbance that occurred on Monday, August 28, six individuals suffered varying degrees of gunshot wounds. The conflict arose when the local youth gathered around the premises of the Tamale District Court, demanding the prosecution of a person named Karim Osman, who is suspected of being involved in drug-related activities.
In the course of the incident, the police arrested 13 of the protesters, and in addition to the arrests, numerous motorcycles owned by the demonstrators were confiscated.
The subsequent discussions involving traditional leaders, REGSEC, and the police administration led to the decision to grant bail to the arrested individuals.
This step was taken to address the situation and restore calm to the area.
