Suspects turn themselves in

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has confirmed the arrest of two key suspects wanted in connection with an ongoing criminal prosecution involving gold smuggling and related offences.

The suspects, Abdul Karim Alhassan and Sadique Abubakar, who were among four individuals earlier declared wanted, voluntarily turned themselves in to authorities and have since been arraigned before the High Court to face prosecution.

They are being charged with offences including gold smuggling, conspiracy to smuggle gold, and transportation of gold without a license.

The court has granted them bail, but they remain in lawful custody pending fulfilment of bail conditions and the continuation of proceedings.

Meanwhile, two other suspects — Mohammed Afsal Puthalan and Mohammed Refeeq Nandoli, also known as Salam — remain at large.

The GoldBod and the Ghana Police Service have reiterated their appeal to the public for credible information leading to the arrest of the remaining fugitives.

A bounty of One Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 1,000,000) per person remains active for anyone who provides actionable information that results in their capture.

The Gold Board reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with law enforcement agencies to dismantle gold smuggling networks and safeguard Ghana’s mineral wealth.
