UE/R: 3 arrested in Bolgatanga over alleged attempted baby sale for ¢20k, human trafficking, forced prostitution
The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects for their alleged involvement in human trafficking and forcing young women into prostitution at Gbane, a suburb of the Talensi District.
The suspects, identified as Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo, and Faith Levy, are said to have trafficked young girls and exploited them for sex work.
According to preliminary police investigations, suspect Peace Agbede allegedly met one of the victims in Nigeria and promised to help her join the Ghana movie industry due to her appearance. The victim reportedly agreed and travelled with her to Ghana.
However, upon arrival, the suspect is said to have failed to fulfil the promise and instead took the victim to a mining site at Gbane-Tongo, where she was coerced into prostitution.
The victim was allegedly required to pay GH¢400 daily to her alleged handler, Peace Agbede.
The police further stated that the victim later became pregnant and gave birth on 26 June 2026. Following the delivery, the suspect and her accomplice, Favour Sunday Udo, allegedly visited her and attempted to persuade her to sell the baby for GH¢20,000 to an interested buyer.
A search conducted in the room of suspect Peace Agbede led to the discovery of six sales record books bearing names including Esther, Mary, Bright, and Silver, as well as 265 unused condoms.
Police also rescued four female victims aged between 18 and 20 years during the operation.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be put before court.
