The Western Regional Police Command has intercepted two trucks carrying 152 bales of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics during an intelligence-led operation in the Western Region.

Three men have since been arrested in connection with the seizure.

The suspects have been identified as Moses Kwaku Tawiah, 44; Kwame Kontor, 44; and Kwabena Forson, 55.

According to police, the operation began on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at about 5:20 PM, when officers on duty at the Assorkor barrier near Shama stopped a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GE 8965-12 loaded with suspicious bales.

However, the occupants reportedly fled upon spotting the officers.

Shortly afterward, Tawiah appeared at the scene claiming the vehicle belonged to his brother and appealed for its release.

He was detained for questioning, during which police say he admitted being responsible for another Hyundai Gold truck, registration GS 3368-17, also carrying similar goods and parked at Nkroful, Block Factory near Sekondi.

Police accompanied the suspect to the location, where the second truck was discovered.

Further checks revealed that each bale allegedly contained about 80 slabs of the compressed substance believed to be narcotics.

In a related development, at about 2 AM. on February 23, two additional suspects reportedly arrived at the same barrier with ¢69,000 in cash in an attempt to bribe officers to release the vehicles.

The money was seized and both men were immediately arrested.

The two trucks and the suspected narcotics have been impounded, while the cash has been retained as evidence.

All three suspects remain in custody assisting with investigations.

The regional command has assured the public of its continued commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking and related criminal activities across the region.
