6,200 unpaid teachers to be absorbed and paid — Education Minister

The Minister for Education, Alhaji Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that 6,200 teachers who have been working for several months without pay will soon be formally absorbed into the public education system and receive their full salaries, including all arrears.
Addressing the press ahead of the upcoming ADEA Triennale in Accra, the Minister confirmed that the Cabinet has approved the process for the Ministry of Finance to commence payment arrangements.
“They will be issued their staff IDs, and their back pay will be processed, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu assured.
He acknowledged the frustration and financial hardship faced by the affected teachers, some of whom had recently protested over the delays, but urged them to exercise patience and restraint, noting that industrial actions disrupt academic progress.
“We understand their concerns, but disruptions to academic work hurt the very students they are meant to support,” he stated.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving teacher welfare, emphasising that efforts are ongoing to streamline recruitment and payment systems to prevent such delays in the future.
