Academic certs from unaccredited UCC, UDS, UEW study centres not recognised – GTEC warns public

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has bemoaned the use of unaccredited study centres by the University of Cape Coast (UCC), University for Development Studies (UDS), and the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to run academic programmes.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 3 October 2024, signed by its Ag. Director-General, Prof. F.K.E Nunoo, GTEC cautioned prospective students that enrolling in programmes at these unapproved centres would be at their own risk, as qualifications obtained may not be recognised.
GTEC revealed that UCC is currently operating 91 unaccredited study centres across various regions.
Some of the flagged centres include Dreamfield International School in Sunyani, Fountainhead University College in Tema, Great Victory Academy in Bolgatanga, and Holy Child College of Education in Takoradi.
Other prominent centres listed are King Jesus School Annex in Koforidua, Mawuli School in Ho, and Tamale College of Education.
While the UDS was found to be using 21 unaccredited centres, including its Tamale Dungu Campus, Damongo Agriculture College, and Buipe Senior High Technical School.
Other locations flagged include UDS Daboya Study Centre and Dagbon State Senior High School.
The UEW is linked to 48 unaccredited centres, including Manye Academy in Axim, Sefwi Wiawso Senior High Technical School, Enchi College of Education, Kpando Senior High School, and Nalerigu Senior High School.
GTEC therefore urged the public to thoroughly verify the accreditation status of any study centre before applying, as this will affect the validity of their qualifications and long-term career opportunities.
The Commission stressed that academic certificates from these centres would not be recognised, and it advised applicants to consult GTEC for a list of accredited institutions and programmes to avoid future complications.
