Dec polls:Choose permanent jobs over unpaid 'allawa'-Dept Minority leader to nurses
The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region and Deputy Minority Leader, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has called on trainee nurses and midwives to prioritize securing permanent employment rather than relying on unpaid allowances.
Speaking to students at Essiama Nursing and Midwifery Training College and Asanta SDA Nursing and Midwifery School during a joint gathering, Mr Buah criticized the government for not fulfilling its promises regarding the payment of allowances to trainee nurses and midwives.
His address came as part of the campaign tour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice-Presidential candidate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, to the Ellembelle Constituency on Tuesday.
Mr Buah pointed out that despite Vice-President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's claims that the government had settled all outstanding allowance arrears, the reality is different.
He suggested that the government is attempting to win votes by sending mobile money payments to trainees just before the elections, a tactic he described as deceptive.
He advised the students not to be swayed by these last-minute payments, urging them instead to accept any money sent but vote for former President John Dramani Mahama and NDC Parliamentary Candidates in the upcoming elections.
Mr Buah also shared the NDC's plans to address healthcare challenges if elected, including expanding and building new healthcare facilities across the country, which would create permanent jobs for nurses, doctors, and other health professionals.
Additionally, the Deputy Minority Leader pledged to provide free internet connectivity on the campuses of the two nursing and midwifery training colleges in the Ellembelle Constituency to enhance students' academic experience.
