Eric Asomani Asante shortlisted for top 50 Global Teacher Prize

Eric Asomani Asante, an ICT teacher at Naylor SDA Basic School in Tema, Ghana, has been shortlisted among the top 50 candidates for the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2023.
This prestigious award, in partnership with UNESCO and Dubai Cares, aims to recognise outstanding teachers who have made significant contributions to the profession and the community.
Eric Asomani Asante was selected from among over 7,000 nominations and applications received from 130 countries worldwide.
As an ICT teacher, he faced several challenges, including a lack of adequate computers and internet connectivity.
In response, he innovated by connecting one computer system to thirty students' monitors and developing an offline website for teaching internet topics but without internet access.
His solutions have been shared with thousands of other ICT teachers.
Eric Asante has previously received recognition as Ghana's Most Outstanding Teacher in the National Teaching Council's Ghana Teacher Prize in 2020 and the National Best STEM Teacher award in 2022.
The Global Teacher Prize, now in its eighth year, awards US$1 million to the winner and seeks to highlight the crucial role teachers play in society.
Eric Asomani Asante's inclusion in the top 50 shortlist is a testament to his dedication and innovative teaching methods.
The prize will be narrowed down to the top 10 finalists, with the winner to be announced later this year by the Global Teacher Prize Academy.
This recognition serves to elevate the teaching profession and celebrate educators worldwide for their contributions to education and society.
