GES interdicts Somè SHS bursar, matron, storekeeper for food theft; Asst. headmaster, cook also arrested

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended three officials from Somè Senior High School in the Volta Region amid an investigation into the alleged theft of food items.
Mr Richard Ametorxe, the bursar; Ms Yorm Dzikumu, the matron; and Mr Alex Obuadi, the storekeeper, have been ordered to hand over their duties to the headmaster with immediate effect.
The inquiry was triggered by a search conducted by some alumni and an assembly member on the evening of Friday, May 24, as the bursar and matron were leaving the school premises.
The search uncovered various food items, including tin tomatoes, mackerel, cleaning agents, and insecticide spray, in the matron’s possession.
Additionally, two other staff members, including an assistant headmistress and a cook, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a scheme to steal food meant for the students.
The assistant headmistress has been detained by the police for further questioning.
In a statement released on Monday, May 27, 2024, the GES announced that the three suspended officials must hand over their responsibilities to the school's headmaster. An investigative committee has been formed to examine the matter and is expected to report its findings within two weeks
