The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that Senior High Schools (SHSs) will reopen as scheduled on January 3, 2025 today, despite a request from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) for a postponement.

CHASS had earlier appealed to the Ministry of Education, warning that unresolved financial challenges facing second-cycle institutions could disrupt the reopening process.

The group reiterated this concern in a statement issued days before the reopening, advising against resuming classes until the issues were addressed.

However, in a statement released on Thursday, January 2, the GES maintained that the reopening date remains unchanged and that the 2024/25 academic calendar will proceed as announced.

“The reopening schedule for Senior High Schools has not been altered.

Students, staff, parents, and the general public are reminded to adhere to the academic timetable,” the GES emphasized.

According to the GES, Senior High School students are to return on January 3, 2025, while primary and Junior High School students will resume on January 8, 2025.

The GES also assured stakeholders that it is actively working with the Ministry of Education to address the concerns raised by CHASS, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a smooth academic year.
