EC stands by December 30 Kpandai rerun date
The Electoral Commission (EC) has indicated that it is ready to organise the Kpandai parliamentary rerun slated for Tuesday, December 30, 2025, even as the matter remains before the courts.
Speaking on the issue, the EC’s Deputy Director of Research, Fred Tetteh, said all necessary arrangements are progressing smoothly, noting that the Commission is proceeding strictly within the bounds of the law while keeping a close watch on proceedings at the Supreme Court.
According to him, the December 30 date was set in line with the Commission’s constitutional mandate and will stand unless the apex court issues a directive to the contrary.
Speaking in an interview on Monday, December 15, Mr Tetteh stated that although the Commission is aware of the ongoing legal action, it remains committed to the announced timetable until instructed otherwise by the court.
He revealed that ballot papers for the rerun will be produced in Accra, with political parties to be formally notified ahead of the printing exercise.
Mr Tetteh added that the training of temporary election personnel is scheduled to take place within five days of the voting date, while the recruitment of officials is already underway.
He further disclosed that returning officers and other key staff have been recalled for the exercise, and that a notice of poll will soon be issued to officially inform voters in Kpandai of the rerun and the related procedures.
He assured that outstanding preparations, including ballot production and public notifications, can be concluded within a ten-day window.
“All these activities can be completed within ten days. Recruitment is ongoing, and officials assigned to the rerun have been recalled. Ballot papers will not be printed in Kpandai; the entire process will be handled in Accra,” he said.
