On Friday, January 26, 2024, tensions flared between students of Holy Trinity Cathedral Senior High  Secondary School (HOTCASS) and Sacred Heart Technical Institute at James Town in the Odododiodiodio Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.

The dispute allegedly stemmed from accusations of the Sacred Heart students assaulting HOTCASS girls.

Armed with cudgels, HOTCASS students confronted their counterparts from Sacred Heart when they noticed them loitering on the John Evans Atta-Mills Highway, causing a traffic disturbance in Accra’s Central Business District (CBD) for approximately thirty minutes.

When questioned about their aggressive stance, HOTCASS students justified their actions, citing alleged mistreatment of their female peers.

The tumultuous scene escalated as HOTCASS students roamed the streets, targeting individuals wearing black or blue trousers with white shirts.

The hawkers in the area found themselves helpless in the face of this student-led aggression.

A particularly intense confrontation occurred near the collapsed office of Standard Chartered Bank, just meters away from the Bank of Ghana (BoG) office, where a first-year female student from Sacred Heart engaged in a heated argument with the riotous HOTCASS students.

It remains unclear whether these incidents played a role in the decision of the Bank of Ghana to relocate its headquarters from the area.

Reports available to Classfmonline.com suggest that similar clashes had erupted recently between HOTCASS students and those from Accra High Schools and Kimbu Secondary Technical all in the Greater Accra Region.

Consequently, business people in the vicinity are worried about their safety, further emphasising the disruptive consequences of these student conflicts.

They explained the riotous behaviour of the students in recent times adding that last week the gate of the school was closed to check lateness among students and this did not go down well with the students who resorted to rioting.
