NUGS c'ttee rejects new constitution
The Central Committee (CC) of the National Union of Ghana student (NUGS) has rejected moves by their executives to introduce a new constitution for the student body.
The Committee said until its concerns with the move are addressed, it will not budge.
A statement issued by the Central Committee said: “On the 28th September 2019, a Unified Central Committee meeting was held at KNUSTFORD University College which saw in attendance central committee members of various institutions of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) to deliberate on matters of Congress and discussions of an updated drafted constitution.
“The meeting ended with an imposition of the newly-drafted constitution regardless of grievances expressed by the Central Committee.
“We, the Central Committee members of the union, cannot watch the Co-President, who chaired the meeting, move and second a motion for the acceptance of a smuggled legal framework (constitution).
“We see this act of the executives as a breach of NUGS’ law, abuse of office and disrespect for student leaders whom they are serving.”
