Worlds of work and academia must pair up for HR enhancement, development: Prof Opoku-Antwi
The worlds of work and academia must keenly interact and collaborate to enhance Ghana's human resource and foster development, Prof Enoch Opoku-Antwi has asserted.
The Dean of Business Administration, Academic City University College, Haatso-Accra, was the keynote speaker at the second edition of the George Ayittey Memorial Lectures organised by the Africa Centre for Entrepreneurship and Youth Empowerment (ACEYE), Thursday, September 26, 2024. He spoke to the media on the sidelines of the event.
"We should bridge the gap between academia and the world of work. Where academia will pair with the world of work," Prof Opoku-Antwi said.
He urged academia to pay attention to the prevailing needs the corporate world and equip their students accordingly, increasing graduate employability and enhancing productivity locally and nationally.
The award-winning leadership and management professor also advised students to pursue multidisciplinary skills like effective communication, problem-solving, adaptation and collaboration, among others, to make them versatile in the world of work, increasing their work security and enhancing their contribution and value at work.
"The world of work needs certain skills that academy is not providing," Prof Opoku-Antwi said.
He admonished: "If you go to university and you learn some liberal arts, and you don’t have multidisciplinary skills and you come to the world of work and they have to train you again, it means you did not get value for your education."
