A/R: 2 killed, 13 injured in Dominase crash as driver ignored warning to get off his phone
Two persons died on Tuesday, 17 November 2020 in an accident at Dominase on the Ahwiankwanta road in the Ashanti Region.
The accident occurred when a sprinter bus with registration number GE 6097 - 17 travelling from Manso Nkwanta toward Kumasi, crashed into a tipper truck with registration number GE 2345-Y, which had broken down.
The truck is alleged to have broken down and has been abandoned on the road for five days.
The Bekwai MTTD Commander, Chief Inspector David Amofa, confirmed the accident to Class News’ Ashanti regional correspondent Elisha Adarkwah.
“We also heard it this dawn. We proceeded to the hospital, it was a broken-down tipper truck, which had been abandoned on the road five days ago and then the sprinter, too, was coming from Manso-Nkwanta fully loaded with passengers.
“According to some of the passengers, on their way, the driver’s concentration was on his phone. He was on phone conversing with some people, they said they warned him several times but he ignored the advice.”
“Unfortunately, he crashed into the stationary tipper truck. At the moment, two people have died and the rest have been rushed to the SDA Dominase hospital for treatment. So, currently, about 13 people are at Dominase SDA hospital receiving treatment," he added.
He further revealed that the driver of the Sprinter bus has since bolted.
“After the accident, the driver took to his heels and he’s nowhere to be found. But it's a known vehicle, we’ll be able to trace the car owner.”
Investigations have commenced into the cause of the accident.
