A/R: My brother was shot by the police, he didn't shoot himself – Sister of road rage shooter
The family of the 31-year-old man, Francis Zabanga, who shot another man, Kwame Amoah, and shot himself at Ayeduase near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region in a fit of road rage, has accused the police of shooting and killing him.
According to the late Zabanga’s family, they do not believe the police report suggesting that Francis shot himself in the head after committing the crime.
Sister of the deceased, Lydia, alleged that a police officer called shot her brother.
“It’s the police officer who shot my brother, he came there, but I didn’t know he was the one, but he couldn’t come close to my brother, it was his colleagues who drew close to my brother, so, he was watching from afar. He had on the same attire he was wearing when he shot my brother”, she alleged.
“My brother can never shoot himself, if he wanted to shoot himself, then why did he call the police, he called the police himself to come to the scene,” Ms Zabanga noted.
Lydia added that a video footage available to them proves her brother did not attempt suicide as the police claims.
“It’s the video footage that shows that it’s Charles who killed him. He himself has gone to say he shot him and he’s written somewhere else that my brother killed himself. My brother can never do that.
“We have nothing, no issues with the police officer; now the matter is before their superiors, even if we kill him, it won’t bring our precious brother back, my brother took care of lots of people,” she added.
The suspect died at 5.30 pm on Tuesday, 17 November 2020 at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
He died moments after the victim died.
The bodies of both men have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
The suspect is alleged to have shot the victim in a fit of road rage.
He then attempted suicide by shooting himself when he came to the realisation that his life was in danger after onlookers began to attack him by pelting him with stones.
