Ambulance case: Big Sea General Trading to testify today

Chief Executive Officer of Big Sea General Trading LLC, Hamed Sardashti, will testify via video link from Dubai in the ongoing criminal trial over the controversial ambulance procurement contract with the Ghanaian government.
Mr. Sardashti’s testimony is scheduled for 11:30 am local time and is expected to play a crucial role in the case.
Big Sea General Trading LLC, an ambulance production company, began delivering a total of 200 ambulances to Ghana in December 2014 under a government contract, starting with an initial batch of 10 vehicles.
In February 2015, the company invited three senior officials from Ghana’s Ministry of Health to its Dubai production facility to address concerns from a post-delivery inspection report on the first ten ambulances.
The Ministry's inspection report identified several issues with the ambulances and recommended additional features to meet the standards required for Ghana’s ambulance service.
Mr. Sardashti’s forthcoming testimony is highly anticipated as it aims to clarify the involvement of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader of Parliament and former Deputy Minister of Finance, who signed off on the Letter of Credit for the initial 50 ambulances.
Dr. Forson, along with Richard Jakpa, Big Sea’s agent, faces charges of willfully causing financial loss to the state and intentionally misapplying state property.
