Angry Asamankese residents stone, chase away late firefighters

Some irate residents of Asamankese in the Lower West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region on Tuesday night (7 May 2019), chased out firefighters from Kade who had responded to distress calls after they arrived at the scene late of the blaze which consumed a cold store and a mattress shop.

The angry locals blocked all major roads in the municipality and hurled stones at the firefighters.

The firefighters fled to the Asamankese Divisional Police Command for refuge.

They were in the belly of the police station for almost five hours fearing they could be lynched by the angry mob.

Calm has been restored the area.
