Atomic bridge to undergo repairs; GHA warns of traffic disruptions

The Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) has announced upcoming maintenance work on the Atomic Bridge in Accra.
The maintenance work will begin on Thursday, 3 October 2024.
The repair project, focused on reinforcing the bridge's expansion joints, is expected to last until Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
According to the GHA, the repair work will enhance the bridge’s structural integrity and ensure safer travel for commuters.
However, traffic disruptions are anticipated during the repair period, as work will take place each night from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
In a statement, the GHA urged motorists to cooperate with traffic management teams stationed at the site.
"As a result, there would be traffic interruptions. Motorists are advised to adhere to the traffic management systems to be put in place by the team of engineers from our Bridge Maintenance Unit as they work on the overpass," the GHA noted.
Drivers are also encouraged to consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
"Motorists are also advised to use alternative routes if possible. Our team of engineers will start work on Thursday, the 3rd of October, 2024, and end on Tuesday, the 22nd of October 2024," the statement added.
