Bawku: Security forces bolster presence on Bolgatanga-Tamale highway amid renewed violence

The recent unrest in Bawku erupted following the return of Alhaji Seidu Abagre, a rival chief previously in exile, whose reappearance has reignited longstanding chieftaincy disputes.
Clashes between factions have since resulted in several casualties, further heightening tensions in the area.
The violence has also spilt over onto the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, where armed men set up roadblocks near Gbimsi, targeting travellers from the Bawku area.
These attacks tragically claimed eight lives and led to significant vehicle damage.
To address the situation, security agencies have deployed joint police and military personnel to both Bawku and the affected sections of the highway.
Their mission is to restore order, secure traveller safety, and monitor traffic flow along this crucial route. Authorities have assured the public of their commitment to maintaining law and order in the region and have urged citizens to remain calm.
In a statement, the Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives and stabilizing Bawku and the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, pledging that comprehensive measures are underway to bring peace to the region.
