COVID-19: Savanna undergoes disinfection

The second phase of the government’s nationwide disinfection exercise geared toward ridding the country of filth in order to prevent a further spread of COVID-19, has taken place in the Savanna Region.
The exercise forms parts of efforts by the government to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
The exercise was carried out in collaboration with private waste management company Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
The disinfection and fumigation exercise took place in all lorry parks and markets in the region.
Fifty markets in the Savanna Region benefited from the exercise.
It began at Damango.
Speaking in an interview with Class91.3FM’s regional correspondent Zion Abdul-Rauf, the Chief Executive for the West Gonja municipal assembly, Saeed Jibril Muhazu, commended the government and Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the exercise.
He reminded the residents of the area of the fast-spreading nature of the virus and urged them to adhere to the safety protocols set out in order to avoid being infected.
Regional Minister Adam Braimah Salifu also noted that the exercise would be carried out across all the towns and villages in the region.
He further bemoaned the effect of the pandemic on the region, including the shutting down of the Mole National Park, which is Ghana’s largest wildlife reserve, leading to revenue shortfalls.
