President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated a state-of-the-art market complex in Akim Oda, located in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region, marking a significant milestone in the local economy's revitalization.

Constructed under the District Assemblies Common Fund and as part of the $100 million Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP), the project aligns with the World Bank-backed initiative to enhance urban development in 25 municipalities across Ghana.

The new market replaces the old structure devastated by a fire in September 2021, which destroyed hundreds of stalls and displaced traders, causing widespread economic hardship.

The ultra-modern complex features over 250 lockable stores, a clinic, a banking hall, and a creche, providing a secure and comfortable environment for trading activities.

The market's design prioritizes functionality and convenience, offering traders and customers a conducive space for commerce and community interactions.

At the opening ceremony, President Akufo-Addo praised the District Assemblies Common Fund Secretariat, led by Administrator, Irene Naa Torshie Addo, for their dedication to the project's successful completion.

“This market represents not just the restoration of livelihoods but a leap forward in urban development.

It is a testament to the power of collaboration between the government and local stakeholders,” the President stated.

The Akim Oda market complex is part of a broader agenda by the Akufo-Addo administration to spur economic growth and development in secondary cities, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and supporting local businesses.
