E/R: Bee attack injures several residents in Abotanso community
At about 17:00 GMT on Monday, residents of the Abotanso community were thrown into panic when a swarm of bees suddenly invaded the area, attacking people indiscriminately, according to eyewitness accounts.
The bees reportedly appeared without warning and stung residents across the community, affecting men, women, the elderly, and children alike.
Several people sustained injuries in the incident.
Seven victims were admitted to the Abotanso Community Clinic for treatment.
Among them were two individuals, both aged 65, who reportedly became paralysed following the attack.
Due to the severity of their condition, they were later referred to the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital for further medical attention.
No deaths were recorded as a result of the incident.
Speaking to the chief and elders of the community, they confirmed that such an incident had never occurred in the area before. They indicated that traditional inquiries would be made to ascertain the cause of the unusual occurrence.
The situation has since been brought under control, and residents have been urged to remain calm as investigations continue.
