E/R: Boakyekrom residents in open defecation due to lack of toilet facilities
Residents of Boakyekrom in the Afram Plains South Constituency of the Eastern Region have been pushed to engage in open defecation due to the lack of toilet facilities in the area.
According to the residents, all attempts to get the district authorities to build a toilet facility for the area have fallen on deaf ears.
It is an area where men, women and children go squat in the open to attend to nature’s call, a resident said.
Narrating the predicaments of the residents on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Odeyieeba Kofi Essuman on Accra 100.5 FM, on Monday, December 5, 2022, the Chief of Boakyekrom, Nana Kwaku Nkrumah, said the situation in the area is worrying and demeaning at the same time.
He said the situation is as if the people of Boakyekrom are not part of the country Ghana even though they vote every four years.
“The people of Boakyekrom share water with stray animals,” he noted with worry.
He said farmers have to contend with the illicit activities of Fulani herdsmen destroying their products daily.
“We have no clinic and the state of our roads are bad,” he said.
He stressed that nobody is listening to the plight of the people of Boakyekrom.
He explained that this has left the people frustrated.
“Nobody is listening to our problems in Boakyekrom,” he concluded.
