Ewurama Ameyaw Akumfi, the daughter of former Education Minister Professor Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, reportedly passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023. 

The tragic incident follows a fire outbreak at the family’s residence in Techiman, Bono region.

Ewurama, a teacher in her early 30s, underwent treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after sustaining severe burn injuries from the fire incident.

She was pursuing her LLB at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The unfortunate event occurred on Saturday, December 9, 2023, while Professor Ameyaw Akumfi, the Board Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), was away attending a funeral in the community. 

Preliminary investigations suggest that an explosion in one of the rooms triggered the fire, causing extensive damage to the property.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the incident, but the building was already engulfed in flames upon their arrival. 

Ewurama, the only person at home during the fire, attempted to escape but suffered severe burn injuries.

Initially treated at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman, she was later transferred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further medical attention. 

Unfortunately, Ewurama succumbed to her injuries on December 14, 2023. 

The entire incident has left the family and the community in mourning.
