Veteran Journalist Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng passes away at 74
Renowned journalist and former Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, has passed away in London.
He is reported to have died on Monday at the age of 74.
Nana Gyan-Apenteng, a respected figure in Ghana's media landscape, served as editor and columnist for The Mirror newspaper and was the Apagyahene of Tafo Eti in the Eastern Region.
He began his illustrious journalism career in the late 1980s and early 1990s as deputy editor of the West Africa magazine in London before returning to Ghana, where he worked with the Third World Network.
There, he headed the communications unit and edited the organisation's flagship publication, Africa Agenda.
Throughout his career, he played a vital role in shaping media practice and policy in Ghana and across West Africa.
He was also a media trainer and communications consultant for several prominent organisations, including MTN Ghana, UN agencies, the Media Foundation for West Africa, and STAR-Ghana.
An alumnus of Apam Secondary School and the University of Ghana, Legon, Nana Gyan-Apenteng was widely regarded for his intellect, integrity, and commitment to journalistic excellence.
He is survived by six children. The family is expected to announce funeral and burial arrangements in due course.
