Founders’ Day: Tuesday declared public holiday

General News
The new date for Founders’ Day was introduced by Nana Akufo-Addo

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 4 August 2020 has been declared a statutory public holiday to mark the 2020 celebration of Founders’ Day across the country.

This was announced by the Ministry for the Interior to the general public.

In a statement signed by sector Minister Ambrose Dery, the ministry advised the general public to “observe the safety protocols associated with the novel coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), especially in relation to social events at public places.”

The new date for Founders’ Day was introduced by Nana Akufo-Addo by an Executive Instrument to commemorate the contributions of various forebears to the liberation of Ghana from imperialism and colonialism.

It replaced September 21, the birthday of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, which used to be a statutory public holiday.
