GPHA boss meets IGP to strengthen security on transit corridors
The Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, has paid a courtesy call on the Inspector-General of the Ghana Police Service, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to enhance collaboration on securing Ghana’s transit corridors.
The meeting, held at the Police Headquarters in Accra, focused on strengthening joint efforts to protect the movement of goods from Ghana’s ports to landlocked neighbouring countries.
Discussions highlighted concerns over emerging security threats, including smuggling and other criminal activities that affect the efficiency and credibility of Ghana’s transit trade system.
Major-General Tanye-Kulono emphasised the strategic importance of transit trade to the country’s economy, noting that ensuring the safety and integrity of cargo is critical to maintaining Ghana’s position as a preferred trade hub in the sub-region.
In response, Mr. Yohuno reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to safeguarding the corridors, indicating that additional personnel would be deployed to key نقاط along the routes to deter crime and ensure rapid response to incidents.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen inter-agency cooperation in support of national economic and security priorities.
