GRIDCo engages chiefs on Kumasi-Konongo (J2K) 161kV Transmission Line Upgrade Project
The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has engaged eight chiefs and their elders in the areas within the Kumasi-Konongo ((aka J2K) Line Upgrade Project in the Ashanti region.
The engagement with the chiefs and elders follows a sensitisation exercise undertaken by GRIDCo in October 2022, preceding reconstruction work on the line in November, 2022.
Ing. Kwame Boadi of the Lands & Environment Section, Engineering Department led the GRIDCo delegation.
The GRIDCo delegation updated the eight chiefs and their elders about the Kumasi-Konongo Line Upgrade Project, stressing its importance to residents and the entire country upon completion.
The team also assured the Chiefs and elders of enough redundancy-alternative power lines to serve customers to limit the risk of outage.
The traditional leaders who gave the GRIDCo delegation a warm reception, showed a positive understanding of the rationale of the project.
They also showed their displeasure regarding the encroachment menace, and assured GRIDCo of their preparedness to collaborate with the power producing company in every way to ensure the encroachers of the Right of Way (RoW) relocate.
Currently, the line traverses five Metropolis, Municipalities and Districts in the region, including the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly; Asokwa Municipal Assembly; Oforikrom Municipal Assembly; Ejisu District Assembly, and the Juaben Municipal Assembly, which has 19 affected communities.
The GRIDCo team engaged traditional leaders including the Adako Jachie Hene, Nana Osei Busompem III; Besease Hene, Osaahene Asabe Antwi II; Manhyia Hene, Nana Kwadwo Kwah; Fumesua Hene, who was represented by his linguists, Nana Asua Amoako II & Okyeame Kofi Boateng; Asokwa Hene, Nana Fe-Baamoah Baffour II; Ejisu Hene, Nana Oguakro Afrane Okese IV; Queenmother of Kentinkrono Nana Yaa Akyaa Frimpomaa I and the Regent of Ayigya, Nana Boahen).
