The Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has disclosed that the government is advancing efforts to make the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) food-sufficient through strategic partnerships facilitated by the Hungarian Embassy in Accra.

Speaking after a recent meeting with the Hungarian Ambassador and his deputy, Mr. Genfi said discussions focused on President John Dramani Mahama’s bold vision of ensuring sustainable food security within the armed forces via the Defence Industries Holding Company (DIHOC).

As part of the initiative, three Hungarian companies made detailed presentations at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Accra, showcasing proposals for collaboration with GAF and DIHOC on large-scale agricultural and food enterprises.

These projects are expected not only to strengthen food supply chains for military personnel but also to serve Ghana’s wider market.

Mr. Genfi described the development as a “strategic step toward national resilience, economic empowerment, and sustainable defence logistics.”

The move aligns with the government’s broader agenda of building local capacity, reducing reliance on imports, and positioning the armed forces as a key contributor to Ghana’s food security and economic growth.
